What size is the sheet?

We have three types of icing sheet, one measures 185mm x 250mm (7.5 x 10 inches) and is base coloured white.

We also have sheets ideal for cupcakes, these contain 53mm (2inch) in diameter circles of icing and there’s 12 circles on each sheet.

And finally a sheet which contains one large circle, the circle is 190mm (7.5inch) in diameter and is precut to save the hassle of trying to cut a perfect circle from a full sheet

 

How can I get the picture to you?

That’s easy, the fastest and easiest is to complete the form on the printing page, or you could email the image to printing@cakescrazy.co.uk.  If the image is not on your computer or available as a computer file then you can post the image to the address on our contact page or by clicking here,  don’t worry, we will return your photo/image untouched along with the printed icing sheet

 

What finished quality should I expect?

The finish will be a good representation of the original picture, if the file/image is very small it will pixelate when expanded beyond its native resolution. A small picture sent by post can be expanded to a higher resolution.  Very faint pictures, over exposed, and some old black & white pictures can sometimes generate white areas, really dark black and white images the black areas become flat in appearance. Images with large areas of dark colouring adjacent to light areas can cause a slight streaking effect. Vibrant colours will always be a shade darker than screen colours. Metallic finishes (gold and silver) have a poor representation when finished with food colourings.  

Sometimes we may refuse to print an image if we feel the final finish will not be acceptable.

What flavour is the icing sheet?

The edible icing has little or no taste

 

What file formats will you accept?

We prefer .jpg file formats, however, we will also accept .bmp .tif .gif and png. We also accept MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Publisher, and Acrobat.pdf with limitations.

If submitting a file in MS office format then please ensure the page is sized to “US Letter” with a 1.27mm border. MS documents with artistic text effects are printed directly from your uploaded document file because converting these to a format for our software can cause shifting of the layout, so no sample/proof will be sent.

 

Can you make any amendments to the image like cropping sections or adding text?

Yes, we can crop a picture or add text, we can also make other adjustments within reason.  Please send any amendment details through with your image. If you require text added then please indicate the font, size and colour required and where you think it would be best suited within the layout. Text can be curved as well as straight. Text added will be “copied-n-paste” from your instructions, spelling, punctuation or case will not be checked or corrected

 

How will I know what size picture will be printed?

Rather than just printing directly from the emailed image, we will request you to state the size required at point of order (Excludes circular or cupcake sizes).  For circular images the main subject will be centred within the circle.  To ensure the image can be centred the width of the subject needs to be proportional to it’s height.  The easiest check is to get the image onscreen relative to the size of a tumbler, place a tumbler over the subject, if you can fit in the height of the subject within the tumbler the width has to fit too.

Both circle and cupcake prints will have an approximate 1mm white border around the image, this is only apparent when solid dark background colours are used

How can I pay?

We will only accept payments via PayPal. PayPal is a secure online payment method where you can either pay with your credit or debit card, or, like millions of users if you already have your own personal PayPal account and can pay via this.

How long will it take?

We despatch within 3 days of payment being cleared. Royal mail on average can take anything upto 3-4 days to deliver. We suggest you allow at least 7 days before you require the prints

 

How will the printed sheet arrive?

We despatch the sheets sandwiched between card in a well packed envelope. Delivery is by first class post (UK only).  We also ship to Europe and worldwide, as postal rates vary please make us aware of your location at the point of an enquiry. If you are outside the UK and have not informed us of your locality then the package will still be posted using a UK postage stamp and rates which we cannot guarantee arrival of

 

How much does this cost?

Each sheet printed costs £6.00 + £2.00 (UK) p&p for the total order

 

How long does the sheet last?

Providing the sheet is retained in the wallet and packing it was shipped in it can last upto two months.  We strongly suggest that you use your icing sheet within 14 days of receipt

 

How is the sheet best stored?

As previously mentioned, keep the icing sheet in the packaging it arrived in, don’t place anything on top of the package/sheet, and store at room temperature away from sunlight

 

Where can an edible icing sheet be used

We suggest you only use edible sheets on cakes covered with sugarpaste or royal icing

 

How do I apply the printed sheet to the cake surface.

Leave the sheet out of its packaging in a dry room for a couple of hours before use. To apply the printed icing to sugarpaste apply minimal moisture (water) to the sugarpaste first using a small paintbrush to make it tacky then apply the printed icing sheet onto that. Never dampen the printed icing sheet and then try to apply. If you can see any reflectiveness in the applied moisture (water) on the sugarpaste surface then you have applied too much and it needs to be removed or the image will just dissolve and your creation ruined.

Always support the printed icing with both hands

 

Cutting a sheet to size

You can cut the icing sheet to any shape or size you require. For straight lines use a pizza cutter ensuring that you do not cut through the backing sheet, then use the table method. For intricate irregular shapes first break the bond between the icing and the backing using the table method but do not remove the icing away from the sheet, then cut around your image to suit, afterwards separate the printed cutout from the backing using an angled pallet knife.

How to remove the icing from the backing sheet

The printed icing is transported on a plastic backing sheet.  

The icing is best removed from it’s backing by holding the backing sheet tight and pulling the sheet over something with a sharp angle like the edge of a table (holding corner to corner is the best) ,this will separate the printed area away from the backing sheet usually without problems.

 

Rounded edges do not work.

 

What happens if the icing doesn’t remove from the sheet

 

If the table edge doesn’t work it’s usually because the humidity of the room is high, if this is the case preheat your oven to about 50’c, then turn the oven off. Place the sheet in the oven on a flat tray and leave for 2-3 minutes (this reduces the moisture content from the sheet), after the icing has cooled down it will remove easily.  If it doesn’t work first time, just repeat this procedure.  

 

Never place the sheet in the freezer and certainly never try to peel the icing from the sheet

 

If you use either of the above methods it easily falls away from it’s backing sheet.

Hold the backing sheet corner to corner and then pull tightly across a surface with a sharp angle like the edge of a table will break the bond between the icing and the transport backing, then the icing will start to fall away.

Never try and peel the icing from the backing
