Circle printing do’s & don’ts

If you are looking to have an image printed inside a circle then the simple rule is, the image is only as good as it’s shortest side.

Subjects near the edge of an image will by the nature of the circle cut the corners away and usually the subject too.

Reducing the image size will show the flat sides of the photo inside the circle, therefore ensure there is always sufficient area/background around the subject to backfill the circle

Fonts

We have most font’s installed, for printing over photos a plain font works best, and usually in white or black.

We instinctively know when something looks right or wrong. When raw images are sent we always try our best to set out the image in a fashion that only we would be happy with, this is why we always send a layout sample before you commit to making a payment, therefore if you want to make a change or amendment you can before it’s confirmed and printed.

Sometimes depending on the image sent we will try and make the text suit the flavour of the image by using a font or colour which is more in harmony with the image.    Samples like:

These are copyright images and are used for text demonstration purposes only

Plain Strips

An edible image doesn’t just have to be placed on top of your cake. If you want to try something different you can have the images placed in narrow bands which you can cut from a sheet easily, and place around the sides of your cake

The bands can contain up 12 images which would be repeated, and can be a combination of either landscape or portrait orientation. Although it is possible to use a mixture of both, some images would have to be cropped.

Each strip would measure 250mm in length and a sheet can contain upto 4 when sized no more than 45mm high.

One sheet is good for cakes upto 9 inch square or a tight 12 inch round depending on the thickness if the fondant icing you have applied

Example strip

These are examples we have used on our own cakes

Providing you keep within our limit of twelve different images, then the cost to provide this service is no more than the cost of a sheet of multiple images. There are no hidden extras!

Film Strips

Filmstrips follow similar dimensions as listed on the plain strips, but taking the black surround into account means the final photo would be smaller

Our standard strip is 250mm long and 46mm tall, the actual image rectangle measures 40x30mm

Each strip holds 6 images, and there are 4 strips per sheet 250 x 46mm. One sheet of strips are sufficient to go around cakes upto 12 inch round, or 9 inch square.  When emailing images ensure you send either 6 images or 12.

iPhone Screens

You can have an iPhone screen printed to place on top of your cake.  The maximum length is 250mm but to keep the screen proportionally correct the image can never exceed 130mm wide.

Or another alternative is a sheet of app icons printed onto cupcakes discs

The icon cupcake discs are a standard set, but the name, age, and year can be changed on the calendar app

Age cupcake discs

Our first name and name cupcakes proved so popular that this has become a regular with our clients.

There are 12 to a sheet, you just need to choose the name, and, age and colour

These are just a selection of our most used discs

I Luv discs

All you need to add is the last word. Available in 53mm sheets of 12 or 37mm sheets of 30
